Taking care of your teeth while wearing braces

Taking care of your teeth while wearing braces is very important for your oral health and the success of your treatment. Here are some tips to follow:

  • Brush your teeth after every meal, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gum line and gently brush around your braces and teeth in circular motions1.
  • Floss your teeth at least once a day, using a floss threader or a special orthodontic flosser to get between your teeth and under the wires. Slide the floss along the sides of each tooth and gently move it up and down2.
  • Rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash to remove any food particles or plaque that may be left behind after brushing and flossing.
  • Avoid eating hard, sticky, or sugary foods that can damage your braces or cause tooth decay. Cut your food into small pieces and chew carefully.
  • Visit your orthodontist regularly for adjustments and check-ups. Follow their instructions and wear any additional appliances, such as rubber bands or headgear, as directed.
  • If you experience any problems with your braces, such as loose or broken wires or brackets, contact your orthodontist as soon as possible. Do not try to fix them yourself.

By following these tips, you can keep your teeth and braces clean and healthy, and achieve a beautiful smile.
